On the first Monday in June, Social Security retirement beneficiaries could get a new monthly payment. However, it is only possible if you meet all the necessary conditions.
In fact, two completely different groups of recipients could receive a check on June 3, 2024. This is because some qualify because they collect another benefit and others because they started getting payments before a specific date.
2 eligible groups of Social Security beneficiaries
If you began collecting retirement benefit payments before May 1997, you qualify for this check of up to $4,873. To get so much money you must have earned the taxable maximum for 35 years in jobs covered by SSA and filed at 70.
If you receive Supplemental Security Income and Social Security, June 3 will also be your payment date. So, this is the last group of retirees who qualify for the payment on the third.
If you are on SSDI and you are in one of the two situations previously mentioned, you also qualify. Plan your monthly budget now because your payment will be in your bank account in 24 hours.
Eligibility for Social Security on June 12
If you did not receive retirement benefits before May 1997, your payment could be due on June 12 rather than June 3. Nevertheless, it will depend on your birth date.
If your birthday is early in the month (from days 1 to 10), you will receive a Social Security check on June 12. Do not forget that the June payments are only for those who filed.
If you have not filed for Social Security, you need to wait until you are 62. What is more, you must have worked for a minimum of ten years and paid enough payroll taxes. If you filed too early and got a large reduction, your payment could be lower than the average $1,915 check. SSI and SNAP could help you as well.
