The final countdown is over and it is time to start receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments in the United States. To get money from the Administration it is essential to remain eligible though.
Only two groups of disability recipients can receive the SSDI payment on August 2. The first group is those who started collecting Disability Insurance payments before May 1997. The second group is those who get SSI and Social Security Disability Insurance simultaneously because they have a low income.
Not eligible for SSDI on August 2
Some Disability Insurance recipients may not be eligible for the payment on the 2nd. This does not mean that they will not receive a monthly payment. They will just cash it later in the month.
The first payday after August 2 will be on August 14, 2024. SSDI recipients can get money on this day if they do not qualify for the August 2 payment and have their birthday on one of the first ten days of any month.
Those who were born after the 10th but before the 21st will get their SSDI payment on August 21. The final Disability Insurance payment will take place on August 28.
SSDI of $3,822: Eligibility
There are 3 essential requirements Disability Insurance recipients must meet to get the largest benefit in 2024. The first one is to have worked for 35 years in jobs covered by the Social Security Administration.
Therefore, this reduces the chances of getting such a large payment. The average SSDI payment of $1,537 is a more reasonable amount for many disability recipients. Some even may get less money and need to apply for SSI.
The list of requirements to get $3,822 keeps growing and you must have also earned the taxable maximum for 35 years. That is the contribution and benefit base, set at $168,600 in 2024. The age you file for Social Security also matters, so an early filing will not allow you to get $3,822.
