The famous supermarket chain, Walmart, has made a significant announcement for anyone who purchased a specific product on a certain date. This news follows a lawsuit against two companies that sell canned foods, who have committed a legal offense.
StarKist and Lion Capital Accused of Price Fixing
Recently, both StarKist and Lion Capital faced accusations of selling canned tuna at excessively high prices and coordinating the pricing for other brands. Consumers claimed that they were forced to pay inflated prices for these tuna products due to an alleged conspiracy between the two companies.
Who Benefits from the Settlement?
This settlement will benefit individuals who purchased packaged tuna products from Walmart between June 2011 and December 2016. Additionally, those who bought these products from other retailers such as Sam’s Club, Costco, and US Foods are also eligible to receive a payment.
The Settlement Details
Although the tuna companies did not admit to any wrongdoing, they have surprisingly agreed to pay a substantial sum to settle the lawsuit. In total, they will pay USD 3.6 million, with Lion Capital contributing only USD 270,000. The majority of the financial burden will be carried by StarKist.
How to Claim Your Payment from Walmart in the United States

Commitment to Social Responsibility

Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The investigation was conducted by the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, which began in 2015. The companies faced a significant lawsuit due to price-fixing and monopolistic practices, which hindered free competition.
