The new COLA is here. Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive an increase in their monthly payments after the Social Security Administration has made official the 2025 cost-of-living adjustment figure.
More than 7.5 Americans with a low income benefit from SSI checks or direct deposits every month. Even if it will not be until December 31, 2024, when Supplemental Security beneficiaries can collect the 2.5% COLA increase, they will be the first ones to receive it.
SSI payment maximum amounts after 2025 COLA
SSI payments can be for low-income Americans who:
- have a disability
- are blind
- are at least 65 years old
Once you qualify for SSI payments, you could receive these payments individually, as an essential person, or as an eligible married couple. The current amounts for them are
- $472 for essential persons before 2025 COLA: $483 with the increase
- $943 for individuals before 2025 cost-of-living adjustment: $967 with the increase
- $1,415 for eligible married couples before 2025 cost-of-living adjustment: $1,450
