The United States recipients on the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program will soon receive their December payment. However, the check or direct deposit will arrive on Black Friday. That is, on November 29, 2024. As you may have already guessed, 2 days ahead of schedule. December 1 will not be the payday because it is Sunday.
Sunday and Saturday are not paydays for SSI or Social Security payments. Bear in mind that all offices and banks, as well as financial institutions, will be closed. Thus, SSA needs to send the direct deposits on the previous business day, November 29.
SSI payment scheduled for late December
Not only will SSI recipients get their December payment in advance, but also the check or direct deposit for January. As a result of this important change in the Supplemental Security Income’s payment schedule, the SSI check will be due on December 31, rather than on January 1.
In this case, January 1 does not fall on the weekend. However, it is a Federal Holiday and millions of Americans will be celebrating the New Year. Interestingly, this will be the first SSI payment with the COLA increase.
Hence, Supplemental Security Income payments will include a 2.5% boost. It may not seem enough but it will be necessary if you have a really low income and you cannot make ends meet.
SSI payment amounts for January and December
While the maximum amount for Supplemental Security Income will be $967 on December 31, it will be just up to $943 on November 29, 2024. This is the largest check or deposit for an individual.
An eligible married couple, if both qualify for the maximum amount, can get up to $1,450 on December 31, 2024. Nevertheless, the SSI payment on November 29 will be up to $1,415.
Remember that you will receive 2.5 dollars if you get 100 dollars from this Federal benefit. So, you will get 5 dollars extra if you receive a check or deposit of $200 in 2024.
