Disability benefits will first arrive for Supplemental Security Income recipients on December 31, 2024. If you qualify for both SSDI and SSI, this will be your first payment with the 2025 COLA increase right before New Year’s Day. The first Social Security Disability Insurance payment will be issued on January 3, 2025.
Only two completely different groups of recipients can get this monthly payment on the third. You can either qualify for being on benefits since before May 1997 or you can be eligible if you are collecting Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance at the same time. If you don’t, here are the other possible paydays.
SSDI payments on January 8, 15, or 22 with COLA
Just like the January 3 SSDI payment, the other three checks and direct deposits will include the 2025 COLA increase. A necessary boost to avoid losing more buying power. Remember that you will get one of these disability benefits if:
- your birthday is from 1-10: Disability Insurance payment on January 8
- your birthday is from 11-20: Disability Insurance payment on January 15
- your birthday is from 21-31: Disability Insurance payment on January 22
- you are not receiving SSI
- You remain eligible and have not broken SSA rules
- you got benefits after April 30, 1997, but not before
SSDI payment amounts for January 2025
The amount of your payment will depend on the payroll taxes you paid to SSA, the number of years you worked, and the age you applied for SSDI benefits. On average, Disability Insurance checks and deposits will be about $1,542.
The largest SSDI benefit payment will be up to $4,018 in 2025, up from $3,822 in 2024. Few workers can achieve it because they must have earned the taxable maximum for 35 years.
If your SSDI payment is too low, you can also apply for the Supplemental Security Income payment. SSI can provide you with an average check worth $697 in 2024 or $714 in 2025. So, apply as soon as possible to improve your financial situation.
