The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed a new SSDI payment on December 11, 2024. Although some Disability Insurance recipients got their check on December 3, this is because they began receiving their disability benefits before May 1997 or because they are also receiving SSI benefits at the same time.
After the SSDI payment on December 11, there will be two more checks if you do not qualify for it or the one on the 3rd. Of course, to receive Social Security Disability Insurance you must have worked and paid enough payroll taxes. What is more, you must have a qualifying disability that meets SSA’s strict definition of disability.
SSDI payment on December 11
Do not forget that to receive SSDI on December 11, 2024, you must have been born from the 1st to the 10th, no matter the month your birthday is. If you are on SSI or got benefits before May 1997, you will not qualify.
Those whose birth dates are from 11-20 will get their Social Security Disability Insurance benefits on December 18. The disability benefit payments on December 11 and December 18 will be Wednesdays.
However, the last SSDI payment in December 2024 will not be issued on the fourth Wednesday. This is because, on Wednesday, December 25, Americans celebrate Christmas, and it is a Federal Holiday too.
SSDI maximum and average amounts on December 11
The amount of your SSDI payment will depend on your work history and the taxes you paid to Social Security. However, average payments will be about $1,542 as per the SSA’s COLA fact sheet.
If you were a high earner you could get up to $3,822, but this is very unlikely. Only those who earned the taxable maximum for 35 years can receive so much money from Social Security.
None of the December payments for SSDI will include the 2025 COLA increase. Hence, eligible recipients will have to wait until January 3, 8, 15 or 22 to get their new and update payment with 2025 COLA.
