There are thousands of Americans who still do not know they can receive SNAP benefits in Texas, Florida, or any other state. Food Stamps was the former name of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, but some beneficiaries still call it like that.
SNAP is basically free money you can receive every month to buy healthy and nutritious food. Needless to say, food has become really expensive and many Americans cannot afford to buy all the things they need.
Texas and Florida will continue sending SNAP checks through December 28. However, they arrange payments differently. What is exactly the same is the maximum amount beneficiaries can get.
WHO CAN RECEIVE SNAP CHECKS WORTH UP TO $973 IN TEXAS AND FLORIDA?
Families of four can get up to $973 from the Food Stamps program if eligible. Not everyone may qualify for the largest payment though. It will depend on the earnings and resources that a family has. But average payments are not bad either.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the average SNAP payment for a 4-member family is $713. Can you imagine receiving $713 to get food? If you are on a low income, it is time to apply for Food Stamps.
Texas will send SNAP checks to those whose Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number is from 18-53 and 72-99. For example, if your EDG number ends in 18-20, or 72-74 you will get your Food Stamps on December 21.
The last SNAP checks in Texas will be for those whose EDG is 42-45, 50-53, or 96-99. Check USDA’s monthly issuance schedule for all states and see when your next payment arrives.
FOOD STAMPS IN FLORIDA AND PAYDAYS
Even if USDA and the Food and Nutrition Service fund SNAP benefits, states administer payments and the approval of applications. Florida does not use EDG but the case number read backward. Using the 9th and 8th digit, the next payday will be December 21 if your case number 9th and 8th digit are 72-74.
If it is 75-78, your Food Stamps will arrive on December 22. December 23 will be the day when you receive SNAP checks if your case number is 79-81. Those who have 82-85 will get it on December 24. The rest of the payments will be for numbers 86-99.
To be eligible the SNAP office will check your gross (below or at 130% of the federal poverty line) and net monthly income. Apart from that, they will check if you have any assets. It could be $2,750 or $4,250 if there is a member with a disability or a senior 60 or older.
Many families have children, so they do not have to meet the Able-Bodie Adults Without Dependents time limit. That means people aged 18-52 with no kids must work for 80 hours per month to get SNAP for more than 3 months in 3 years.
