The Social Security Administration (SSA) is delivering SSDI checks today, January 17, 2024. This money is essential for those citizens on disability benefits. For your information, this payment will include the 2024 COLA increase.
As a matter of fact, it is the third payment in January from the Administration. However, this SSDI check will not be the last one. SSA has scheduled another payment for January 24, which will be the last one this month.
In order to receive SSDI checks you must have filed and got the Administration’s approval. If you started collecting Social Security Disability Insurance before May 1997, this check is not for you.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR AN SSDI CHECK ON JANUARY 17?
If your birthday is after the 10th but before the 21st, you started receiving SSDI after or in May 1997, this check will be yours. So, those disability benefit beneficiaries whose birth date is from 11-20 can get their payment today, January 17. But there will be another payment next week.
Therefore, do not worry if you do not qualify for this payment. The next SSDI check will be due on January 24. To be eligible you must have also received benefits from May 1997 onward.
What is more, if your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st, you can obtain your check on January 24. Bear in mind that SSDI payments are just for people with a qualifying disability.
If your disability disappears or you get over it, you must report it to the Social Security Administration. Also, it is important to claim SSI benefits if your SSDI check is not enough.
SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INSURANCE AMOUNTS IN JANUARY 2024
Disability benefits are usually lower payments. This is because workers have had to give up their jobs at an early age. The more years of work you achieve, the better for your Social Security checks.
Those who have worked for 35 years can get more money from the Administration. Of course, your job must be covered by Social Security. If you do not pay taxes, you cannot receive SSDI on your record.
In fact, only those workers who have worked for 35 years and get the taxable maximum all this time may qualify for $3,822. Early filing may mean a large reduction.
The average SSDI payment is worth $1,537 in 2024. So, this amount may be more realistic than the maximum benefit. If you earn too little money, apply for Supplemental Security Income. It can provide you with monthly checks worth $674 on average.
