The Social Security Administration (SSA) is in charge of sending payments to over 70 million Americans in the United States. Some get retirement or disability benefits, but there are many other options.
For example, you can also receive a monthly payment if you qualify for survivors, spousal, or Supplemental Security Income. So far, the Administration has sent 4 payments to different groups of beneficiaries.
NEW SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT ON MAY 22
If you are on retirement benefits, the Administration could send you a payment on May 22. However, you must meet 2 essential or key conditions. On the one hand, you must have been on benefits but not before May 1997.
On the other hand, you must also meet the birthday requirement. Therefore, those whose birthdays are from 21-31 will receive a new Social Security payment on May 22 in the United States. The average retirement check will be about $1,915.
If your birthday is also from 21-31 and you are on SSDI, you may also receive your payment on May 22. Of course, you must have started receiving benefits after April 30, 1997. SSDI payments are about $1,537 on average.
SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEDULED AN SSI CHECK ON MAY 31
Believe it or not, the Social Security Administration will send another SSI check on May 31. However, it will not be a bonus payment. In fact, it will be the June payment sent in advance.
Since June 1 is on the weekend, the Administration will have to send it on the previous business days. As SSA closes offices on the weekend and on federal holidays, some payments need to be re-scheduled from time to time.
SSI maximum amounts can be up to $1,415 for eligible married couples and $943 for individuals. Payments could be much lower on average, especially if you collect other payments or have other earnings at the same time. It could be about $698 on average as of April 2024.
