SNAP EBT cards allow recipients to get groceries every month. If you are new to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, there are some eligible food items.
For example, USDA claims that you can buy fruits, vegetables, seeds, plants to grow them in your vegetable garden, breads and cereals, dairy products, meat, poultry, and fish. However, some people do not know that they can buy snacks and non-alcoholic drinks with SNAP.
4 eligible food items for the 4th of July to buy with your SNAP EBT card
Many American citizens love to eat hot dogs and hamburgers on Independence Day. Since you can buy meat with your Food Stamps, you can add these BBQ staples to your shopping basket.
To go with your grilling SNAP-eligible items, you could also buy a chips and dips pack. Depending on where you live, you might enjoy hot or rainy weather, so the menu may be slightly different if you do not feel like having a BBQ in the rain.
Do not forget that SNAP is meant to buy groceries for low-income families and it allows them to buy healthy food. Healthy food tends to be more expensive though. So, do not forget to take some watermelon for the 4th of July.
Non-eligible items for SNAP recipients
Although you must be thinking of some drinks for Independence Day, they may not be eligible for SNAP EBT cards. Therefore, you cannot buy any spirits or alcoholic drinks using Food Stamps.
USDA claims that SNAP recipients cannot use Food Stamps to buy wine or beer. What is more, if you are thinking about buying foods that are hot at the point of sale, you will not be able to use your EBT card for that.
Not surprisingly, you can buy shellfish and fish removed from water if you prefer that for Independence Day. If you are not on Food Stamps and have a low income, it is time to apply.
