The Social Security Administration confirms that there will be 2 SSI payments in May

The Government, through the Social Security Administration, has confirmed the upcoming SSI payments in the United States. May will bring two checks for those on Supplemental Security Income.

However, this does not mean that it is an extra or bonus payment. In fact, it is money sent in advance from June. Social Security only sends SSI payments on business days.

WHEN WILL SSI PAYMENTS ARRIVE IN MAY 2024?

If you are eligible for the Supplemental Security Income, you will receive a payment on May 1, 2024. All recipients get checks or direct deposits on the same paydays.

There are no exceptions. Although there could be delays if your bank does not process payments on time, it is unlikely. Social Security sends retirement and SSDI on 4 different paydays, but SSI on a single payday.

May 31 will also be a payment date for all eligible SSI recipients. It will actually be the payment which was due on June 1. As June 1 falls on a Saturday, the Administration re-scheduled it for May 31.

SSI AMOUNTS FOR MAY 1 AND MAY 31

The lowest maximum amount will be for essential persons receiving SSI payments. The maximum amounts will be the same for May 1 & May 31. A single person on Supplemental Security Income can receive up to $943.

If recipients are married and they are both eligible, couples can receive up to $1,415. These amounts sound great but reality is not like that. Average payments are much lower.

SSI average payments for all recipients are worth about $699. Nevertheless. if you are 65 or older, the average check is worth $574. Those aged 18-64 can get about $744. Children can also receive Supplemental Security Income.

The average payment for under 18s is worth about $821. Do not forget that if you qualify for Social Security retirement or disability benefits and your income is too low, you can now apply for Supplemental Security Income.
