September’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, whose maximum benefit amount is worth up to $943, is set to be distributed to millions of beneficiaries in just 25 days.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) claims that, the first SSI payment for September will be distributed on August 30 to those living with a qualifying disability that affects their income. Seniors, blind citizens and some children may also qualify.
Social Security confirms requirements for SSI payments
To qualify for these payments, applicants must meet specific conditions:
- Be at least partially blind
- Have a physical or mental condition that significantly limits daily activities for at least 12 months
- Have a condition expected to result in death
- be at least 65 years old
Here’s a breakdown of the maximum payments based on filing status:
- Individual recipients: Up to $943 monthly
- Eligible married couples: Up to $1,415 monthly
- Essential Persons: Up to $472 monthly
Note that these amounts have increased by 3.2% due to inflation adjustments from last year. The latest 2025 COLA projection could be about 2.63% said the Senior Citizens League on July 18, 2024.
The maximum amount received is influenced by the way individuals apply. Different amounts are allotted to:

- Joint filers
- Essential persons who provide necessary care to SSI recipients
