Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are made monthly to all United States citizens who have this check accepted. This means that each month recipients who have this accepted benefit can get a payment. This payment is a maximum of $914 for an individual.
However, there are some Americans who may have access to a larger check for this benefit. But to do so, they must meet certain conditions. Without the established requirements, it is impossible to get more than $914 if we apply for the check as individuals.
But it is possible to increase the check or, at least, to get one that is greater than $914 per month. To reach this figure, you have to meet certain requirements, just as you have to meet different requirements to apply for a monthly SSI check.
If you want to get a larger SSI check every month, pay attention to the requirements and go to the Social Security Administration if you meet the conditions.
Otherwise, there is nothing to worry about, as you will continue to get your check as usual. However, you won’t be able to reach more than $914 a month, not at least not until the 2024 COLA takes effect.
HOW TO GET A SSI OF $1,371 PER MONTH?
The trick to getting a monthly SSI check that is greater than $914 is to apply for the couple’s benefit. By not having an individual benefit, the check goes up to a maximum of $1,371 in 2023.
This maximum will increase by 3.2% in 2024 thanks to the COLA. But best of all, retirees who already have it will see this increase automatically without having to do absolutely nothing. This is a very big advantage, as they will have a larger benefit to deal with inflation.
In case we have an individual benefit the check will go up to $914, although this is the maximum benefit. We cannot exceed this amount, although it is true that the amount we get from SSI will depend on our monthly income.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME
Regardless of whether we get the SSI payment as a couple or as an individual, the requirements to apply for the benefit are the same. On the one hand, you must be 65 years of age or older or have a disability. In the case of a couple, both must meet the requirements.
On the other hand, it is also necessary to have low monthly income and low resources. If we do not meet these two requirements, it will be impossible to receive this type of help. The good thing is that we can combine this payment with the monthly Social Security checks.
Remember that the payments for this benefit are always on the 1st of each month. In December we will have two SSI checks because there is an irregularity in the calendar. This means that the payment for January 1st, 2024 will arrive on December 29th, 2023.
