Wednesday, May 22, 2024, is an important payment date for American retirees. The Social Security Administration is sending monthly payments to millions of retirees, but not all of them qualify for this check or direct deposit.
In fact, there are 2 things the Administration takes into account to send money on May 22. First, you must have been on benefits after April 30, 1997. The second thing is you must meet the birthday requirement.
SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT ELIGIBILITY
Retirees whose birthday is from the 21 to the last day of the month, of any age or year, will receive their monthly payment on May 22. Of course, you can only qualify for one check per month.
Therefore, if you got a check on May 3, 8, or 15, you do not qualify for this money from Social Security. Do not worry if you are on retirement benefits and this direct deposit is not for you.
As a matter of fact, there will soon be other payments. For example, the next payment dates for Social Security retirement benefits are June 3, 12, 18, and 26. If you are on SSI, you will not get a check on June 1 but on May 31 instead.
WHO WILL RECEIVE CHECKS IN JUNE FROM SOCIAL SECURITY?
Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive a payment on May 31. To qualify for the June 3 payment, Social Security will make sure you are on SSI too. Another group of recipients who can receive the June 3 payment are those who began receiving Social Security before May 1997.
The rest of the retirement benefits will be for those who did not collect benefits before May 1997. To arrange paydays, SSA uses birthdates. Birthdays from 1-10, payments on June 12. The next payment will not be on a Wednesday but on a Tuesday.
This is because Wednesday, June 19, is a Federal holiday, and recipients must have their birthdays from 11-20. Those who were born from 21-31 will get their check on June 26. Average payments are worth $1,915 and the maximum benefit is worth $4,873.
