Kathy Hochul, who is New York’s Governor, has announced that the supplemental check for parents who have a low income, eligible under the state’s child tax credit program, will be distributed by the end of August.
These payments are designed to provide additional support to families who already benefit from the Empire State child credit. Importantly, recipients do not need to take any further action to receive this check.
Check amount
The New York supplemental check will offer up to $330 per kid, based on the amount received from the Empire State child credit, which depends on the parents’ federal adjusted gross income.
- For families with incomes below $10,000, the payment will match their child tax credit amount.
- Families with higher incomes will receive at least 25% of their credit amount.
These supplemental checks are a crucial part of New York’s effort to support low-income families, ensuring they have the financial resources needed to care for their children.
While this announcement focuses on the child tax credit program, knowing the ins and outs of other benefit programs can also be beneficial.
Hochul claims that they already knew what peoples’ income was, so they know their eligibility. Thus, they are just trying to make it easier on them instead of having to file papers or go online.”
Check Financial Aid for New York Families
This new initiative, funded through the state’s budget with an allocation of $350 million, is designed to provide relief for this year only. Future funding will need to be approved in the next state budget to allow for additional payments in 2025.
Responding to Financial Pressures
Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who is State Senate Majority Leader, highlighted that this check is a direct response to the financial pressures faced by families in New York. Although there has been discussion about adjusting the credit for inflation, no such changes have been implemented yet.
“Nobody disagrees that the cost of raising a family can be very, very difficult, and nobody disagrees that we as a government have to find a way to alleviate that burden,” Andrea Stewart-Cousins stated.
This initiative is a pivotal step toward providing much-needed financial aid to families, ensuring they have the support they need without the added stress of navigating complex application processes.
The focus is on making assistance more accessible and straightforward, reflecting the government’s commitment to easing the economic strains on New York families.
