Claim a Social Security payment: thousands of families have done it

If your Social Security retirement or disability payment is missing, it is time to know what you should do now

Some Social Security beneficiaries may not have received their checks on time

Millions of Americans receive Social Security benefits. From time to time it is normal that there are some delays. December 27 is when the last check in 2023 arrives, so some beneficiaries may not have collected it yet.

Not receiving a Social Security payment can be really stressful, so knowing what to do could make you feel much better. Getting direct deposit is the fastest way, but some banks or financial institutions may not process your payment when it is due.

Therefore, it can be in your bank account later than you expected it. That is why it is so important to call your bank first. They will be able to tell you whether your payment was sent by Social Security or not.

SOCIAL SECURITY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A MISSING PAYMENT

The first recommendation is to wait for three mailing days to see if your check arrives. Before that time, you should never contact SSA. They do recommend calling your bank or financial institution.

UPCOMING PAYMENTS YOU MAY NEED TO CLAIM

If you did not qualify for the December 27 Social Security check, you may soon get yours if you are on SSI. The Administration has confirmed that the January payment for SSI beneficiaries will arrive on December 29, three days in advance.

The January payments will take place on 4 different paydays. As SSI will arrive in December, there will only be four checks during the month of January. The first check with the COLA increase will be on January 3, 2024.

Social Security will send checks on the third if you are on benefits before May 1997. Another possibility is to get your retirement or disability benefits on a Wednesday.

The last 3 payments will be on January 10, 17, and 24. Payments will be due on those days but only for those whose birthday matches the payday. For example, from 1-10 on the 10, from 11-20 on the 17 or 21-31 on the 24. Wait for three days before calling SSA and call your bank first.
