Life can give you a lot of surprises and sometimes a seemingly ordinary coin can bring you a lot of money. This is what happened in the State of Missouri in the United States. The Columbia Salvation Army has had the good fortune to find a rare coin wrapped in a dollar bill.
This Columbia Salvation Army found the coin in the traditional red teapots. This group collects money for those in need and on this occasion they are able to collect $2,000 dollars all at once. We can’t know who made this donation or if it was intentional, but what is certain is that it is a great joy for this group of volunteers.

Old coins are usually highly sought after among collectors. And this is the case for one of them, as it is a highly sought after one that could give the Salvation Army a good amount of money.
What is the coin valued at $2,000 in Missouri?
The city’s chief Salvation Army officer, Amy Cedervall, was at all times very happy and excited about the find of this coin. In her own words, Cerdervall stated, “It is a Canadian coin and we are very excited.”
The local KRCG agency reported the news on CBS Columbia and has since expanded the investigation of the coin’s value. At the time of collection by the organization’s staff they dumped out the contents of the red teapots and the wrapped coin turned up.
It was striking because it is not common to find a coin wrapped in a bill. “You know, we were counting the teapots from the last day and we opened one and realized there was a coin inserted in a dollar bill, and we very quickly realized it was a gold coin, and it’s an ounce of pure gold,” Amy Cerdervall wanted to add.
There is no exact figure yet, but it is quite possible that it will not only reach $2,000 but exceed that figure. Cerdervall herself explained, “It’s kind of amazing that we are so blessed that someone has decided to honor us in that way and honor our mission. It is with those funds that we keep the shelter running year-round.”
Why are some coins more valuable?
Collectors look for all kinds of different coins to add to their collection. In this case we are talking about a pure gold coin, which makes its value in gold already quite large in itself. Still, this is a collector’s item that quite possibly someone will want to own to add to the rest of their holdings.
In the event that a coin has an error or is minted with an erroneous serial number, it is possible that it will reach a higher value in the collector’s market. That is what makes this type of collectibles so special.
However, in this particular case of the Missouri gold coin we find that even if there is no specific buyer they will always be able to sell the piece as gold and thus finance a large part of the campaign with that money.
