The United States Department of Agriculture, most commonly known as USDA, has confirmed an extension of D-SNAP for New Mexico disaster areas. So, make sure you do not miss out on this opportunity.

For your information, USDA claims that low-income residents of New Mexico living in parts of San Juan and Rio Arriba counties overcoming the damage caused by floods and wildfires on June 17, 2024, may be eligible for D-SNAP support.

D-SNAP eligibility

For those citizens who do not know anything about D-SNAP, it is USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. As a matter of fact, Tom Vilsack, who is Agriculture Secretary, stated that over 25,000 additional households may qualify for D-SNAP even if they do not normally qualify for Food Stamps.

Of course, they must meet some requirements, but it will be worth checking it out to find out if you are eligible or not. One of them is meeting the disaster income limits.

What is more, eligible residents of San Juan and Rio Arriba must have qualifying disaster-related expenses. Thousands may benefit from this relief claimed Secretary Vilsack.

D-SNAP deadline in New Mexico

According to USDA, New Mexico will operate its Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program application from August 12, 2024, through August 18, 2024. However, it will not be possible on August 18, 2024. So, it is an exception.

Only households who work and live in identified areas can apply. The United States Department of Agriculture added on it recent press release that household who are eligible will receive 1 month of Food Stamp benefits.

As a matter of fact, it will be “equal to the maximum monthly amount for a SNAP household of their size”. Once recipients get the money they are entitled to, they can go grocery shopping in-store online.
