Each new month that begins on the United States Social Security payment calendar means that recipients of a Disability benefit may get a new check. Likewise, when a month comes to an end, the last ones to receive a payment are also in luck. That’s because each citizen gets paid on a different day.
In total, the Social Security Administration sends up to four different checks to disability benefit retirees. Each of these payments goes to a different group of beneficiaries. This means that not all Americans may get all the checks the Administration sends. A disability beneficiary can get a maximum of 1 retirement payment per month.
However, that same retiree could get 2 different payments during the month if we take into account Supplemental Security Income. Moreover, if the SSI payment has some irregularity in the schedule the same retiree could get up to 3 different payments. But these are exceptional cases.
In the next payment, only the last of the group of retirees to receive the check will be able to get it. It is not necessary to have a disability check, since any type of benefit is sufficient to receive this payment. Just having an accepted Social Security check and meeting two requirements is sufficient.
REQUIREMENTS TO GET THE DISABILITY BENEFIT TOMORROW
The maximum payment of $3,627 per month for Social Security disability beneficiaries reached such a high figure after the 8.7% COLA in the current year. The same COLA that will not have such a large effect for benefits beginning in 2024. By the following year, the COLA will be only 3.2%. While that is certainly not a bad figure, it falls far short of the 2023 COLA.
Regardless of whether we have the maximum $3,627 or a disability check of $1,200 per month, the Administration will send us the check if we meet two requirements.
The first of these requirements is to have the benefit since after 1997. The second requirement is to have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month. These two requirements are fundamental and indispensable. So you cannot collect the check on October 25th unless you are in this group of retirees.
If you do not meet the requirements, it means that the Social Security Administration sent you payments on the 3rd, 11th or 18th, depending on other factors. What is certain is that if you have an accepted check, the Administration will still send it to you.
CAN I GET SOCIAL SECURITY OLD AGE RETIREMENT AND SSDI?
At no time can you get these two checks at the same time. The reason is very simple: if we have a Disability Benefit (SSDI) check, we are already retired, so we cannot apply for Social Security Age Retirement.
As soon as we reach a sufficient age, our SSDI payment will become our Social Security Age Retirement payment. But we won’t collect both payments at the same time; we’ll stop getting SSDI to collect the other.
Still, there are benefits to this, since the SSDI payment is usually less than the Age Retirement payment. What is certain is that we will receive a check every month, but it could be for Disability or Age Retirement, but never both at the same time.
