Although the highest payments from Social Security are usually for retirees, some disability beneficiaries may also get large checks. However, they must achieve at least 4 requirements before this could happen.
This is not always possible because disability beneficiaries cannot really choose when they apply for Social Security Disability Insurance. It has to be when their condition or impairment prevents them from working. And this could happen in their 20s or 30s, or even before.
DISABILITY BENEFICIARIES AND NEXT PAYDAYS
If you are on SSDI, you may have not received your payment yet. While some disability recipients will get it on May 15, others will have to wait for one more week. This will depend on their birth date.
The earlier in the month your birthday is, the sooner you will get your payment. For example, to get a payment on May 15, your birthday must be from the 11th to the 20th of any month.
Another possibility is to receive money on May 22. SSDI beneficiaries will get, on May 22, a payment if their birthday is from the 21st to the 31st. If you are on SSI, there is good news for you. The next SSI payment will arrive on May 31, rather than June 1.
HOW MUCH CAN DISABILITY BENEFICIARIES RECEIVE?
The maximum SSDI benefit amount is worth $3,822. Nevertheless, you must have worked for 35 years. What is more, you must have earned the contribution and benefit base all those years.
Just in 2024, the taxable maximum is $168,600. So, very few American workers with a disability can qualify for $3,822 in May 2024. Apart from this, you can only get so much money if you do not file early.
The average SSDI payment for eligible recipients is worth $1,537. That is much close to reality and it could be feasible if you had enough time to work and pay taxes to Social Security. Those with the lowest disability payments can apply for SSI to get additional money for food, medical expenses, rent or any other bills.
