January only has four different Social Security payments. All of them are for retirees and people on SSDI, disability benefits. The usual SSI check arrived on December 29 rather than on New Year.
While the first check on January 3 was only for those retirees on Social Security before May 1997, the rest must meet a birthday requirement. For example, to get the January 10 payment, your birth date had to be from 1-10.

Money is arriving today and many people on disability benefits and retirees are getting a Social Security benefit. Remember that not everyone qualifies for retirement or disability benefits. SSA has set strict rules and you must meet them.
WHO CAN OBTAIN A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK TODAY, JAN. 24?
First of all, you must have started receiving Social Security after or in May 1997, but never before. Then, the Administration will check that your birthday matches the requirement.
Therefore, if you have a birthday between the 21st and 31st, you can collect retirement or disability benefits on the 24th. If you turn earlier, you will have already received your January Social Security benefit.
Social Security has scheduled another payment for January 24. Then, if you have a birthday between the 21st and 31st, you will be entitled to the benefit. Provided you did not start receiving benefits before May 1997, but later.
If you receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, your SSI check will arrive on February 1 and your SSI check will arrive on February 2. If you began receiving benefits before May 1997, your next paycheck will also arrive on February 2.
PAYMENT AMOUNTS FOR RETIREES AND PEOPLE ON SSDI
The average payment for those on Social Security retirement benefits is $1,907 according to the Administration’s latest COLA fact sheet. However, if you have not work for at least 35 years, your check may be lower.
Those who as workers were high earners for more than 34 years and filed at the age of 70 may get the largest payment. The largest Social Security benefit in retirement is worth $4,873 in 2024.
Do not forget that all retirees and people on SSDI who get benefits today will get the 2024 COLA increase. So, they will take advantage of this extra money per month from now on.
People on SSDI, disability benefits, will get $1,537 on average. The largest SSDI check is $3,822 in 2024, up from $3,627 in 2023. SSDI payments tend to be smaller because workers had to stop working due to their disability and did not have much time to get Social Security or work credits.
