SSDI and SSI are probably the most important Social Security and Federal programs for American workers with a disability. To get one of them your disability must meet the strict definition given by SSA.
What is more, there are additional conditions depending on the benefit you apply for. Social Security has confirmed that the first disability recipients to get a check or direct deposit will be those eligible for SSI.
SSI and SSDI payment dates for October
October 1 will be when SSI recipients get a new payment from the Federal Government. Here are a few things to take into account about the upcoming Supplemental Security Income check or direct deposit:
- SSI due on Oct. 1, 2024
- same payday for all recipients
- report a missing payment after three mailing days to SSA
- average checks will be worth about $698
- remaining eligible is mandatory
The SSI payment will not include the 2025 COLA until December 31, 2024. So the maximum amounts will be $943 for individuals and $1,415 for married couples who are eligible. Essential persons can get up to $472. SSDI payment will be sent on October 3, 9, 16 and 23. More details about them are below.

SSDI will be sent on October 3 if you are also receiving Supplemental Security Income on October 1. Besides, the second group of recipients who can get SSDI on October 3 is those who began collecting payments before May 1997.
Those who got disability benefits after April 30, 1997, will get a check on
- October 9
- October 16
- October 23
Birthdays must be from 1-10, 11-20 and 21-31 respectively. As for the maximum amounts, SSDI recipients can get up to $3,822. Average payment of about $1,539 are more frequent though.
