Two large groups of SSDI recipients get their monthly payments in early May. However, disability benefits will be due on two more different paydays in the United States.
The Social Security Administration has scheduled payments for May 15 and May 22. These benefits are for those who qualified and got benefits from May 1997 onward, but not before that date.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DISABILITY BENEFITS ON MAY 15/22
Apart from being still eligible for SSDI, the Social Security Administration will make sure you meet the birthday requirement. So that you can get SSDI on May 15, your birthday must be from 11-20.
If your birthday fall from 21-31, then, your payment will be due on May 24. These will be the last disability benefits arriving in May. SSI is also for people on Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, but they will be due on May 1 and May 31.
As you can see, there will be 2 disability benefits for SSI recipients in May. One for the month of May, and the other for the month of June. So it will be sent in advance.
DISABILITY BENEFITS & AMOUNTS IN MAY
The average payments are slightly higher as of March 2024. The average SSDI check is worth about $1,536. The largest disability benefit will be for those who earned the taxable maximum for 35 years and filed late.
If you qualify for the largest check in 2024, your SSDI payment will be worth $3,822. Bear in mind that some recipients have not worked for many years and had a low salary.
That means they receive very small disability benefits. If that is your case, you could also apply for SSI or SNAP benefits. They can help you get more money and save for other expenses.
To get disability benefits you must have a qualifying disability that prevents you from working for over a year. If you have not earned enough work credits, you will not be entitled to them.
