Payments are due on January 24 according to the Social Security schedule. In order to be eligible, you must have filed first. The date you began collecting disability or retirement checks must be after or in May 1997.

Those who filed and got benefits before that date do not qualify for the January 24 payments. In fact, they will not receive their next payment until February 2. The other February checks will arrive on February 14, 21 and 28.

JANUARY 24 PAYMENTS AND ELIGIBILITY

If you did not qualify for the first retirement and disability benefit payments in 2024 is because you started receiving benefits after April 31. So, the Social Security Administration will check your birth date.

Depending on when your birth date is, you may be eligible for the first, second, or third round of Wednesday payments. For example, if your birthday is from 1-10, your check was due on January 10.

Those whose birthday is from 11-20 got their payments on January 17. Therefore, if your birthday is none of the aforementioned, you will be eligible for this retirement or disability check.

Eligible beneficiaries must have started receiving benefits after or in May 1997 and have their birth dates from 21-31. As for the amounts, there are average and maximum amounts. But there could be as many different amounts as beneficiaries.

DISABILITY AND RETIREMENT BENEFIT AMOUNTS FOR JANUARY 24

Payments for retirees could be up to $4,873 if you have earned the taxable maximum for 35 years and filed at the age of 70. If you filed at Full Retirement Age, but meet the other two requirements, you could get up to $3,822.

The maximum amount for disability benefits (SSDI) is $3,822 in 2024. Nevertheless, payments are much lower in most cases since people may have not had such high earnings or filed so late.

The average SSDI check is $1,537 in 2024, up from $1,449 in 2023. Retirees can receive average checks worth $1,907, up from $1,848 as of December 2023. So, they got a 3.2% increase at last. Although the average Social Security benefit has increased by 50 dollars, SSDI recipients only got $44 extra per month.

Retirees have received about $59 extra. If you have not received your check yet, SSA claims you must wait for three mailing days. Contact your bank first and then, after three mailing days, you may call SSA. Banks may have not send payments, your information may not be updated or there could have been a problem issuing your check.
