The IRS’s deadline to claim the 2020 stimulus check payments is over. However, you can still claim money from 2021. Time is running out though and the deadline is approaching.

As a matter of fact, Americans will be able to claim the 2021 stimulus check until April 15, 2025. It is possible that you think that you have no obligation to file a 2021 tax return. And you may be right. However, the IRS recommends filing even if you are not required to file a 2021 tax return.

Best way to claim your 2021 stimulus check

People who are only filing a 2021 tax return to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit or stimulus payment should use VITA. VITA is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.

The Internal Revenue Service online account is another great way to see the amount of your stimulus check payments for 2021. Some people who did not receive the full amount may also be eligible.

Another reminder from the Internal Revenue Service has to do with the 2021 Child Tax Credit. Just like the Economic Impact Payments for 2021, you must file your 2021 tax return before April 15, 2025. Payments for the CTC can be up to $3,600 per eligible child

PFD in Alaska as welcomed as stimulus checks

Even if many Alaskans have received their PFD for 2023, some have not received them yet. Therefore, they should check if they qualify for the PFD payment on June 20 or the one afterward.

What eligible Alaskans should do is check the status of their PFD payment on June 12. If it says that you are “eligible” but the check has not been “paid”, you will receive it on June 20, 2024.

Those who do not qualify for the PFD on June 20 could also receive it on July 18, 2024. The date to check if you could get it then will be July 10. Those Alaskans who want to file again for the PFD will need to wait until January 1, 2025.
