Needless to say, the USDA and the FNS want recipients to have a nutritious diet. That is why SNAP recipients can buy vegetables and fruits with their EBT cards in eligible farmer markets, grocery stores, and retailers.
Dairy products are also common in many Americans’ shopping baskets. Thus, dairy products are also SNAP-eligible. But the list of food items is not over yet, there are more things you can buy with Food Stamps.
All sorts of bread and cereal are also SNAP-eligible. Last, but not least, you can buy seeds and plants with your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program cash. This will allow you to grow vegetables and herbs and save money on groceries.
Recipients cannot use SNAP benefits to purchase:
Sometimes there are some food items you can get with Food Stamps that you may be surprised at. However, there are some things that are not allowed like spirits and alcoholic drinks like wine, beer, or liquor.
Of course, if you smoke, you cannot buy cigarettes or tobacco with Food Stamps either. Some of you may need additional energy so you may want to buy vitamins.
Bear in mind that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program does not allow recipients to get medicines, vitamins, or supplements. Most live animals are not eligible, except for shellfish or fish removed from water among other examples. Hot meals at the point of sale are not included either.
