Some Food Stamps are on the way in some States this week. Even if some beneficiaries have already received their monthly SNAP benefits, others will have to wait through July 28.

If you do not know what Food Stamps are, they are a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that gives money to low-income households so they can buy nutritious food every month.

In total, there are 22 States and Puerto Rico sending SNAP payments this week. If you are not receiving them because you have not applied, you can do so now to get them in the future.

Although the exact amounts may be different for each eligible household, there are common maximum SNAP benefit amounts. For example, a family of four can receive up to $973. The average payment for 4 people living together is $713 said the CBPP.

Sometimes there are individuals getting monthly Food Stamps. In this case, they can receive up to $291 or $202 on average. Couples or household with 2 members can receive up to $535 or the average payment of $372. Additionally, you could get $219 extra if you are 9 people instead.

If you have a very large family, you could receive up to $1,751 when you are 8. Do not forget to apply for the SUN Bucks program if you have kids at school. Although SNAP recipients may get it automatically, you may have not receive it if you have just joined the program or you are not on Food Stamps.

Can I apply for Food Stamps or SNAP benefits if I missed the deadline in my state?

The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 requires that all eligible households get SNAP benefits within 30 days of applying. They must get them within 7 days if they are eligible for expedited service.

It is the state agency’s responsibility to certify eligible applicants and provide benefits on time according to federal law. If a state fails to meet timeliness requirements, FNS will offer resources. They will also require plans to correct the state’s processes.

In general, if you miss the SNAP application deadline, you should still submit your application as soon as possible. You may get benefits late. But, the state must process all late applications and give benefits to eligible households.
