In the wake of last week’s severe weather and flooding, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received federal approval for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) beneficiaries to apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed during the storms.
SNAP beneficiaries who experienced food loss starting from May 16 are eligible to apply for replacement benefits. Once approved, these benefits will be added to their Lone Star Cards within two business days.
“Due to the recent severe weather and flooding that devastated communities across our state, affected Texans will be able to apply for SNAP replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed during these devastating storms,” said Governor Abbott.
- Severe Weather: Impact on communities.
- SNAP Benefits: Replacement for lost or destroyed food.
- Eligibility: Starting from May 16.
- Approval Process: Benefits added within two business days.
This initiative aims to provide much-needed relief to families affected by the natural disasters, ensuring they have access to essential food supplies during these challenging times.
Eligible Texans can apply for these benefits by calling 2-1-1. I extend my gratitude to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission for collaborating with our federal partners to ensure that Texans have the resources they need to recover and move forward after these storms.
