Thousands of United States citizens will be able to get a new Social Security payment just by having a particular type of benefit accepted. Likewise, it is also necessary to activate a specific collection method if we want to get the three different checks within the month of December. If we do not have this collection method activated, we will be able to collect the payments, but a little later.
Thus, Supplemental Security Income recipients will be able to cash up to 2 different checks in December. This benefit is not for all United States citizens, as only the neediest citizens are eligible to get one of these checks of up to $914. The good news is that if we get one SSI payment we are sure to get the next one, barring exceptions.

WHO CAN GET TWO SSI SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS IN DECEMBER?
The requirements to be able to get these two payments in December 2023 are very simple. If we meet them, all we have to do is wait for the Social Security Administration to send us a check. We will not have to take any further action to get the payment.
The eligibility conditions to have up to $1,828 of SSI within the December days are:
- Have had Supplemental Security Income accepted for at least one month.
- Activate Direct Deposit as a collection method for Social Security checks.
For beneficiaries who meet these conditions, checks of up to $1,828, with two payments of up to $914 each, will arrive on the 1st of December and the 29th of December. The first of these is the last SSI for 2023 and the second of these payments is actually the first of the 2024 Supplemental Security Income checks.
WHY ARE THERE TWO SSI PAYMENTS IN DECEMBER 2023?
The reason is very simple. The Social Security Administration does not send payments of any kind on holidays and weekends. For that reason, Social Security checks, regardless of the type of benefit, never leave the offices on these types of days.
Therefore, the 1st of January, the usual day for the payment of Supplemental Security Income, is the day on which the Administration should send this check. But this does not happen because it is a holiday, since it is the first day of the year. For that reason, the check arrives on the immediately preceding business day, i.e., December 29th.
And that is the reason why we will get two SSI payments in the month of December 2023. However, this will only happen if we have Direct Deposit activated. In the case of receiving the money through Direct Deposit the check will arrive in January 2024, as it will take 3 to 5 days to appear in our bank account.
