If a disability prevents you from working, you may get SSDI checks in 2024

First, you must pay taxes to Social Security as you work. Bear in mind that not all jobs pay taxes to Social Security. Therefore, you cannot get SSDI unless you pay enough payroll taxes.

Second, you must have worked for more than the minimum number of work years. To get $3,822, you must have worked for at least 35 years. If not, your SSDI check will be reduced.

EARN THE TAXABLE MAXIMUM FOR 35 YEARS

If you would like to receive the largest Social Security Disability Insurance, you must have worked for 35 years at least. However, this will not be enough. This is because you need a large salary over time.

The taxable maximum is the contribution and benefit base. It increases as time goes by. For your information, it was $160,200 in 2023 and it has become $168,600 in 2024.

So, if you have worked for 35 years, earned the taxable maximum all that time, and paid enough taxes to SSA, you qualify for $3,822 on the February 21 or even the February 28 payment. If you do not qualify, your average SSDI payment may be about $1,537 in 2024.
