Increased SNAP check benefits: you will earn more money on food stamps

SNAP Food Stamps checks will become larger, giving recipients extra money to spend at grocery stores and participating restaurants

Americans with a SNAP Food Stamps benefit will enjoy the COLA next year

On October 12, the United States Government announced the amount of COLA 2024, which also directly affects SNAP Food Stamps checks. Thus, any needy citizen who cashes a SNAP Food Stamp check will have a little extra money in a very short time.

In the case of cashing a SNAP check, you should know that the 3.2% increase will come in full. Therefore, starting next year 2024 you will enjoy a larger SNAP Food Stamps payment. This will make life much easier for some retirees who have no other source of income beyond Social Security and Food Stamps payments.

Whether we have only SNAP Food Stamps as our only source of extra income or not, the COLA 2024 will take effect. Best of all, we won’t have to do anything to get it. The system of benefit check increases is automatic.

So just by having an accepted benefit we will start getting the annual COLA increase for Food Stamps payments. And since this benefit is combinable with other types of benefits, the increase can be double for some Americans.

Assuming we have both Social Security and SNAP Food Stamps checks, in both we will get 3.2% more in 2024. So an average $1,888 retirement check and a $189 Food Stamps check would become $1,948 and $195, respectively.

WHEN WILL WE GET THE COLA 2024 SNAP FOOD STAMPS?

The date to get the increased SNAP Food Stamps benefits is the same as for all other benefits. This means that we will have to wait until the first of the January payments to get the check with the 3.2% added.

The increase in the SNAP Food Stamps will depend on the current check

One thing to keep in mind regarding all of this is that it doesn’t matter what our Food Stamps benefit amount is. Regardless of the amount we get on the EBT card each month, the payment will come in increased by 3.2% starting in January 2024. Before that date it is impossible to get a Food Stamps benefit with the COLA added.

While it is true that the COLA may seem insufficient for this year, especially considering the huge inflation of the past few years, any help is welcome. So a 3.2% increase in all benefits, whether SNAP or any other Social Security financial help, is insufficient but helpful.

CAN I COMBINE FOOD STAMPS WITH OTHER BENEFITS EVEN IF THEY INCREASE?

One of the biggest issues that Social Security and SNAP recipients may face at the same time is the maximum threshold for applying for Food Stamps. This problem is very serious because it can cause us to lose money both in taxes and in other factors related to benefits.
We should be aware that if our usual source of income is Social Security, either disability or age retirement, the monthly payment will increase starting January 2024. This could cause some retirees to lose their Food Stamps benefit from then on because they exceed the maximum limit when claiming this other benefit.
Even so, in most cases, we should have no problem cashing both checks at the same time. However, we must check very carefully to make sure that we meet the requirements to collect SNAP Food Stamps and Social Security at the same time. If not, we may have to pay back some of the benefit money.
Although it is true that we must watch out in most cases we should even be able to apply for Supplemental Security Income. This other benefit is also compatible with Food Stamps and Social Security. And many Americans who have access to this check do not know they can apply for it. So checking eligibility can earn us even a new check starting next year.
