IRS and the October deadline

If you have not filed your tax return yet because you got the October filing extension, keep reading. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has an important new message for you.

In this case, the IRS is not informing of the October deadline, which is on October 15. Instead, it tells taxpayers of an important tool they can use when filing their tax returns.

IRS Free File

The Internal Revenue Service is encouraging Americans who have not filed yet to take advantage of IRS Free File. What is more, they recommend filing over the summer time since taxpayers may have more free time to do so.

Otherwise, they may end up filing on October 15. Filing in a rush is something you should avoid since it could be costly. Do not wait any longer to file if you have all the documents ready.

Remember that IRS Free File is straightforward and quite simple. It is available 24/7. Needless to say, this Internal Revenue Service tool is free. So, there will be no extra cost for taxpayers. However, your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) must be at or below $79,000. So, file with a trusted Free File partner.

Use IRS’s ITA and Online Account

ITS stands for the Interactive Tax Assistant and it is a tool to find out answers to almost every tax law question taxpayers may have before the October 15 deadline. If you do not have an Internal Revenue Service Online Account, it is time to create one.

In this way, you will be able to see the tax records, set up your communications preferences, make any future payments and much more. If you have not paid your taxes yet, do it as soon as possible.

Otherwise, you may have to pay interest or penalties.  Once you file over the summer, do not forget to visit https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund in order to check the status of your tax refund.
