The IRS confirms that the official start date of the 2024 tax season has come. January 29 is the day when taxpayers can start filing their 2023 tax returns. From this day on, the Internal Revenue Service will start accepting and processing returns.
Do not forget that the most important date is not January 29, when everything starts. Actually, the date you should save is April 15 because it is when you must have filed your 2023 tax return.
The IRS believes that over 128 million taxpayers will have filed their 2023 tax returns by the tax deadline. Since there are so many taxpayers, it is important to file early.
THE IRS BRINGS NEW RESOURCES AND TOOLS FOR THE 2023 TAX RETURN
Knowing you must file from January 29 through April 15, it is time to learn about the new possibilities the IRS offers. Making the filing process easier is the Internal Revenue Service’s main goal. What is new regarding the toll-free line?
On the one hand, there will be increased help on the toll-free IRS line. What is more, the Internal Revenue Service has expanded the call back service for customers. In this way, taxpayers do not have to wait.
On the other hand, Taxpayer Assistance Centers will have longer opening hours at many locations. Besides, there will also be more in-person service to help you file your 2023 tax return.
The IRS Individual Online Account also has a chat. What is more, you can either schedule or cancel future payments. Another new feature is the possibility to revise payment plans or save and validate bank accounts.
DIRECT FILE CAN MAKE YOUR FILING PROCESS EASIER
The IRS has enhanced the Individual Online Account, but it has also brought a new pilot tax filing service. It is Direct File and it is free. Filing your 2023 tax return online with the Internal Revenue Service is possible.
Most taxpayers will be able to use it by March 15. First, only some eligible taxpayers in some states may be able to use it. Apart from the creation of Direct File, other old tools have improved.
“Where’s my refund?” will soon have detailed information so that taxpayers can know exactly their tax refund status. Many taxpayers did not understand their status, so they had to call the IRS.
So, from now on there will be plain language in the “Where’s my refund?”. Checking your status will be possible on your smartphones too. File before April 15, unless you live in Maine and Massachusetts where the deadline is April 17, 2024. Make use of the new and updated IRS tool to file easily and get your money ASAP.
