The IRS confirms that they will not be open on Presidents’ Day, February 19. This federal holiday is also known as Washington’s Birthday. The Internal Revenue Service uses the name given in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the US Code.
This United States Code is the law that tells us about the specific holidays Federal employees have every year. Other institutions or States may indeed use different names to refer to them.
However, the IRS must always use the names given by law. But what other Federal holidays are there in 2024? During the 2024 tax season, there will not be any other Federal holiday.
IRS’S NEXT FEDERAL HOLIDAY
The next Federal holiday will be on Monday, May 27. For your information, this is Memorial Day. Then, Wednesday, June 19, will be another Federal holiday.
This holiday is known as Juneteenth National Independence Day. On this day, the IRS will not be open either. Obviously, the Internal Revenue Service will not be open on Independence Day, Thursday, July 4.
After Independence Day, there will not be another Federal holiday until September 02. Do not forget that this Federal holiday is to celebrate Labor Day.
FEDERAL HOLIDAYS IF YOU GOT A FILING EXTENSION
An important holiday to take into account will be on October 14. The IRS will not be open on Columbus Day. So, if you applied for an extension, you will not be able to get an appointment on that date.
The IRS will close its offices on Veterans Day. Veterans Day will be on November 11. After that, there will be another Federal holiday on November 28. As you may have guessed, it is Thanksgiving.
So, the IRS will close on Thanksgiving. The last day the Internal Revenue Service will close its offices will be on Christmas Day. So, make sure you file your return but not on these days.
