Is the Social Security office open on Presidents’ Day (February 19)?

The Social Security Administration has announced that all offices will be closed on Washington’s Birthday. That means all SSA offices will not be open on February 19, Presidents’ Day.

Although most people refer to this Federal holiday as President’s Day, it is by law Washington’s Birthday. Therefore, it is not possible to visit an office on February 19.

However, there are many things that you can sort out online. For example, if you would like to apply for Social Security, you can apply online. Check service hours for my SSA account.

Bear in mind that the following service hours are Eastern Time. Even if Presidents’ Day is a Federal holiday, Social Security will have the same hours as the day the holiday takes place.

If you would like to use My Social Security online, it is available Monday – Friday 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Some people may prefer to make use of it on Saturday and the service hours are 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

FEDERAL HOLIDAYS IN 2024 THAT AFFECT SSA OFFICES

Presidents’ Day will not be the only Federal holiday that Social Security closes. The next Federal holiday will be on Monday, May 27, since it is Memorial Day in 2024.

Juneteenth National Independence Day will also be a Federal Holiday on Wednesday, June 19. Therefore, you will not be able to make an appointment to deal with SSA issues.

July 4 will be Independence Day, so all offices will be closed as well. Labor Day on September 2, Columbus Day on October 14, Veterans Day on November 11, Thanksgiving on November 28, and Christmas Day on December 25.
