In just a few days the United States Social Security Administration will send out the last of the October retirement checks. This means that by then all retirees should have this month’s benefit in their checking account. If not, we may have to claim the check from the Administration.
In order to get this payment in the last week of October we must meet two requirements. Social Security retirees can be part of up to 4 different groups. Each of these groups gets their retirement check on a different day of the month. The last group is the one that gets the payment on the last day of the month and that will occur in the next week.
If we belong to the last group, it is sufficient for us to receive this benefit. If we meet the requirements, we will not have to do anything else to receive the benefit on this day of the month. The method used by the United States Government to send the checks is very useful and practical, which makes life much easier for retirees.
We must check carefully that we are within the group that will get the next of the retirement checks. Sometimes we can confuse one requirement with another and think that we will get the check on a different day. Therefore, it is very important to be familiar with the Social Security payment schedule and the requirements to belong to each group of beneficiaries.
WHO GETS THE LAST SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT FOR OCTOBER?
There are two requirements that we will have to meet if we want to get the benefit of the last day of October Social Security. This day will be the fourth Wednesday of the month, that is, the 25th day. On this day, the Administration will send the last checks to the retirees who belong to the fourth group of retirees.
As for the requirements, the type of benefit is not one of them. This means that it does not matter whether our check is widow’s, spouse’s or disability. Likewise, it also does not matter if the check is for age retirement. However, the following requirements do matter:
- Have Social Security since after 1997.
- Have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month.
If we do not meet these conditions, we will not be on the eligibility list to get the payment on the next October 25th. If the benefit is accepted, we will get a check in October, but in fact, we should already have it in our pockets. In addition to October 25th, Management sent checks on the 3rd, 11th and 18th of the month.
WHEN DOES THE OCTOBER SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME ARRIVE?
Another benefit that arrives every month, or almost every month, to millions of retirees in the United States is the Supplemental Security Income. However, when there is an irregularity in the calendar, the SSI payment does not arrive in the same month. And in October we find ourselves in this situation.
This is because the 1st of October, which is the usual payment day for this benefit, was a weekend. For this reason, the Social Security Administration sent the payment in advance. Specifically, the SSA paid the SSI check on September 29th.
In short, October does have the SSI payment, but the payment was sent out last September. After that, we will have to wait until November 1st to see this benefit again. Regardless of our Social Security benefit we can get SSI check, as it is a different benefit, so it does not hit the pockets on the same day as retirement.
