The New Year is fast approaching and SSI recipients in the United States need the money to be able to make ends meet. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other important events like Black Friday mean recipients’ expenses are expected to soar.
On November 29, the Social Security Administration scheduled the SSI payment for December 1. The first day of next month will not bring a check on deposit on the usual day because it is not a business day. Instead, it will come 2 days sooner than expected.
Will there be an SSI payment after November 29 before 2025 comes?
As a matter of fact, the Social Security Administration confirms that there will be another payday on December 31, 2024. Therefore, the Supplemental Security Income payment on November 29 will not be the last one recipients will get in their bank accounts this year.
For your information, the January payment will not be issued on January 1, 2025. Rather than sending the money on a Federal Holiday (New Year), the SSA always opts for sending the money in the previous month.
Therefore, the cash you receive from the Federal Government on December 31, 2024, should be kept for the January expenses. But who can receive $1,450 or $1,415?
SSI maximum payment amounts for couples
The largest benefit payment a Supplemental Security Income recipient can get is $943 in 2024. Thanks to the 2.5% 2025 COLA increase, an individual will get up to $967 from December 31, 2024, onward.
Nevertheless, eligible married couples will get up to $1,450 thanks to the cost-of-living adjustment in 2025. This amount is up from $1,415. To get such a large amount you should get no reductions.
The easiest way to qualify for the largest amounts for married couples on SSI is to have no earnings and no resources. Of course, you must:
- have a qualifying disability, or
- be blind, or
- be at least 65 years old.
An essential person will only receive up to $472 in 2024 and up to $484 in 2025.
