No more Social Security payments in October: new payment date for SSI

If you get a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit from Social Security, you should be aware that it does not reach the beneficiaries in October

The SSI payment will not arrive in October and we will have to wait until next month

The Social Security Administration sends out a large number of different checks every month to beneficiaries in the United States. Of these checks, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) check is one of the most useful because it helps Americans with the greatest financial need.

However, there are months in which, due to a calendar irregularity, the beneficiaries of this benefit do not get this check. Therefore, we must be very careful when these irregularities are present, as they will completely change our finances during the month.

If you are expecting to get a Supplemental Security Income payment in October, you should know that this is impossible. Because of an irregularity in the payment schedule the Social Security Administration will not pay an SSI benefit check this month. So you need to pay close attention to this entire payment schedule and watch to see when you will get your next Supplemental Security Income check.

This change in SSI payments does not affect SSA age or disability retirement payments so you don’t have to worry about cashing one of the other two checks. It only affects users who collect Supplemental Security Income on a monthly basis, although the change is also not too large and is easily correctable.

WHEN WILL WE GET OUR NEXT SSI PAYMENT?

As we have mentioned before, getting a new SSI payment in October is impossible. This is because Supplemental Security Income payments always arrive on the 1st of each month with few exceptions. If the 1st of the month is a holiday or weekend, the Social Security Administration will still send out a check.

If you have a SSI payment you will have to wait a little bit to get a new one
If you have a SSI payment you will have to wait a little bit to get a new one

This is what happened in October, which is why we found that the October payment arrived to Supplemental Security Income recipients on the 29th of September. All Direct Deposit beneficiaries got the payment early. The rest of the retirees got the payment a few days later.

Even so, the upcoming SSI payments will not have any irregularities. This means that the Social Security Administration will send out checks on November 1st. The Direct Deposit collection method will allow us to have the payment on the same day, as usual.

DECEMBER WILL HAVE TWO SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME PAYMENTS.

In addition, we will get two SSI payments in December. In addition to that, the second of these payments will have the 2024 COLA added to it. Therefore, in December we will have to mark two calendar dates if we have a Supplemental Security Income benefit.

Here are the two days to keep in mind for SSI recipients in December 2023:

The first of these payments is the December Supplemental Security Income payment. There is no irregularity in that payment, so there is no change in the payment. All recipients will get their checks as usual.

There is a slight change in the 29th payment. This payment is actually the check for the 1st of January. Since January 1st, 2024 is a holiday, the payment arrives on the immediately preceding business day, just as it does in October.

And this December 29th check will include the 3.2% COLA that the Social Security Administration and the government announced for the 2024 benefit increase. In short, the first payment with the COLA added will be the January 2024 SSI, but it will arrive in December 2023 for beneficiaries with Direct Deposit activated.

After that payment, the rest of the January payments will arrive as usual, although they will be the usual disability and age retirement benefits. The important thing in this case is that the SSI payment will come earlier and we will be able to enjoy this benefit with the COLA included.
