Depending on when you began receiving Social Security retirement benefits, you may receive your next payment in August or September. For example, if you began getting retirement after April 30, 1997, you do not get SSI and your birthday is before the 11th, your next payment will be due on August 14.
Another possibility to cash a check from Social Security before September is if you meet almost the same requirements. The only thing that changes is your birth date. Those retirees aged 62 or older whose birthdays are from the 11th to the 20th will get their payment on August 21.
2 groups of retirees will not get Social Security until September
If you got your retirement benefit payment on August 2, you are not eligible for any of the remaining retirement checks in August. Some seniors may qualify for an SSI check due on August 30 though.
This is because you started receiving retirement benefits before May 1997. Then, your Social Security is usually due on the third. September is no exception and you will get money on September 3, 2024, if eligible.
Retirees who receive Supplemental Security Income payments (SSI), as well as Social Security, do not qualify for the payments on August 14, 21, or 28 either. In fact, September 3 will also be their next payment date.
Social Security amounts for September
The amount of your retirement benefit payment can be up to $4,873 if you filed at 70. Those who file at Full Retirement Age can also receive a substantial amount. In fact, it could be up to $3,822.
The lowest but still a great payment amount will be for those who file for Social Security early, at the age of 62. 62-year-olds can receive up to $2,710. Average payments will be much lower though.
The maximum amounts are only for high earners with 35 years of work and who earned the taxable maximum for all those years. Make sure you pay taxes to Social Security as you work to enjoy retirement benefits.
