October increase for SNAP benefits confirmed by USDA: Here’s the list with the largest Food Stamps boost and 1 exception

Despite the fact that most States will get a COLA increase in October, some SNAP recipients will have lower maximum Food Stamp amounts

Some SNAP recipients will not benefit from an increase, but they will get a decrease instead. However, this will only happen in Hawaii, where Food Stamps maximum amounts are decreasing.

The 2025 COLA increase for SNAP will come into effect on October 1, 2024. Therefore, Food Stamp recipients will receive their extra money if they live in the 48 contiguous States, Alaska, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia.

State with the largest SNAP benefits

SNAP recipients in Alaska will receive the largest boost. For example, if you are an individual, you can receive $377, up from $374 if you live in an urban area. Those who live in an area known as Rural 1 can get up to $481, up from $477. In Rural 2, it can be up to $586, up from 581.

So, that means the increase could be of up to $5 per month for an individual. If you are a family of 8, you can get up to $2,265 (urban), $2,888 (rural 1) and $3,516 (rural 2).

These figures are up from $2,246, $2,865, and $3,487 respectively. So, if you live in the area known as Rural 2 and you are a family of 8 you can get a SNAP increase of up to $29. List with the highest increase:

New SNAP maximum amounts in other States and territories

Bear in mind that not all Food Stamp recipients qualify for the maximum amounts. This is because you may have other sources of income. If you get SSI, Social Security or you work, your benefits get a reduction. What is more, this is a supplement and does not intend to fund 100% of the money you need for food.
