The Federal government is sending money to more than 7.5 million SSI recipients in the United States on July 1. Therefore, it is time to check your bank account and see if your cash has arrived.
Direct deposits will be sent to those who are still eligible. Remember that SSI is only for low-income Americans. So, if you have started working, you may no longer receive the same amount of money or you may even become ineligible.
SSI & the maximum amounts in July
The maximum amount for an individual is $943. Married couples can get up to $1,415 if they are both eligible for Supplemental Security Income. Essential persons can also get up to $472.
Although some Supplemental Security Income recipients may qualify for the largest amounts, others may receive average payments. So, not all beneficiaries can get the same money.
Average payments for all SSI recipients are about $697.47. Depending on your age, your average payment can be higher or lower. For example, under-18s can receive about $813 on average. 65-year-olds or older can get about $574.
SSI and eligibility for July or August 2024
So far, the Supplemental Security Income rules will remain the same over the summer. However, the Social Security Administration has announced some important changes to several criteria.
In this way, applicants and recipients may have more chances of being eligible or receiving a larger amount. To get SSI you must meet the income requirements. Bear in mind that it is a supplement for low-income citizens in the USA.
What is more, you must meet one of the following 3 conditions:
- being 65 years old or older.
- having a disability.
- being blind.
If you meet all these requirements and you find it difficult to buy the essential things to get by, you’d better apply for Supplemental Security Income as soon as possible. Not doing so can cause food insecurity and even poverty. After July 1, there will be a new payment on August 1, 2024.
