The Government has announced that the Social Security Administration (SSA) will soon start sending your payment in December. As a matter of fact, the Administration will send two checks on the very same day. So, there will be more recipients than usual for the first payday.
Retirees and people on disability benefits (SSDI) can start receiving payments on December 1, 2023. This is unusual because the first payday of the month is generally for those citizens on Supplemental Security Income.
However, the Social Security Administration had to reschedule the payments because on Sunday, December 3, banks are closed. Then, the only possibility to send checks was December 1 too. Thus, recipients will collect their money 2 days in advance.
Retirees and people with disability’s eligibility
If you have been receiving Social Security for a long time and you started collecting checks before May 1997, this will be your payment. Remember that all Social Security benefits need filing, those who do not apply cannot get them.
The thing is that the check on December 1 is not just for those on benefits before May 1997. It is also for those on Supplemental Security Income and on Social Security at the same time.
Therefore, this group of retirees and people with disabilities will also receive their December 3 payment on December 1. But this will not be the only good news for these beneficiaries.
Do not forget that they will also receive their money from the Supplemental Security Income on December 1. This means that some retirees and some people with a disability will collect 2 checks on the same day. SSI can pay up to $914 and retirement checks are worth $1,848 on average.
Wednesday payments for retirees and people with disabilities
If you did not start receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, you will have to wait a little longer. As a matter of fact, there will be no payments between December 3-9.
The thing is you cannot collect your money unless you meet the birthday requirement. So, some beneficiaries will have to wait until December 27 to receive their monthly checks.
If your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st, your payment will arrive on December 27. If your birth date is from the 11th to the 20th, your money will reach your bank account on December 20.
December 13 will be payday if your birthday is from the 1st to the 20th. Supplemental Security Income recipients will get their January payment on December 29 since New Year is a holiday. If you are 62 or have a disability, apply for Social Security in order to get money every month.
