This program helps citizens working as healthcare workers and teachers. Debt cancellation may also be possible for those who became eligible because they have a disability.
The $9 billion fund for student debt payments will be split into three different groups of beneficiaries. According to the White House, about $5.2 billion will be for 53,000 eligible borrowers.
These borrowers must have worked for a minimum of ten years in teaching or the military but in qualifying public services. Additionally, almost 2.8 billion dollars will be for about 51,000 borrowers.
They qualified because they had been in repayment for 20 years or more. What is more, they have reached the threshold to claim forgiveness. Last but not least, about 1.2 billion dollars will be for borrowers who have a permanent disability.
