Social Security will send the first January payment on December 29, 2023. To send the money on a business day, they have rescheduled the Supplemental Security Income payment and it will arrive three days before New Year, which is a holiday.
Although there is a general pattern for Social Security payments, there can be changes. It is of vital importance to know when your benefits are due. This will help you plan your budget and you will be able to increase your savings. Sticking to your budget and planning expenses is essential if you are on a low income.
Usually, SSI beneficiaries will get their payment on the first day of the month. Unless that day is on the weekend or a holiday, like January 1. Then, if you began collecting Social Security benefits before May 1997, your payday will be on the 3rd of the month. But there will also be exceptions.
Social Security may send your check on a Wednesday
If you do not qualify for the retirement or SSDI check on the 3rd day of the month, then your payment will arrive on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month in 2024. However, there will be one exception.January will have paydays on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th. Bear in mind that the Wednesday round of payments is for those who did not receive benefits before May 1997. But then you will need to know if your birthday matches the first, second, or third payment.
For example, if your birthday is on the 5 days of any month, you will receive your Social Security payment on January 10. This is because this check is only for those whose birthday is from the 1st to the 10th.
Those whose birth date is from 11-20 can collect their Social Security retirement or SSDI benefits on January 17. If your birthday is not from the 1st to the 20th, you will cash your money on January 24.
Exceptions to the SSI, SSDI, or retirement payments in 2024 by SSA
In February, those on SSDI or retirement benefits will get their payment on Feb. 2 if they usually get it on the 3rd. February 3 is on the weekend, so their Social Security will arrive on the previous business day. This same group of beneficiaries will also receive their March payment on a different day.
As March 3 is Sunday, recipients will cash their money on the same day Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries do, March 1. April will be the perfect example of Social Security paydays. All the SSI, SSDI and retirement payments will arrive when they are due. April 1, 3, 10, 17 and 24 will be when payments reach your bank account.
May is almost a perfect example, but it has the June SSI payment on May 31. June has another unusual payment. Those who are entitled to the third Wednesday Social Security payment will get it on the third Tuesday instead, June 18. July has no changes but August does.
Retirees and SSDI beneficiaries will get their money on August 2, rather than on the 3rd. SSI beneficiaries will cash their September payment on August 30. No changes are expected for October, but November 3 will not be a payday since it is a Sunday. SSDI and retirement beneficiaries will get their checks on November 1.
The December SSI check will arrive on November 29. Finally, the last December payment for retirees and people on SSDI will be on the 4th Tuesday, December 24. Set your Social Security payment schedule and file for benefits if you do not receive them yet.
