When will SSI recipients get a payment in December?
If you are on Supplemental Security Income, you will receive up to $914 on December 1. This amount may be smaller if you are an essential person. In that case, you may just receive about $458. This will not be their last check though.
Nevertheless, if you are a married couple and both qualify for SSI, your check can be worth up to $1,371. This payday will bring a smaller check than the second payday for SSI beneficiaries.
Once you collect your first SSI payment on December 1, you can expect another one on December 29. Thankfully, this low-income group of beneficiaries will get the COLA increase before the rest of Social Security beneficiaries.
The reason why you will obtain another check in December has to do with a holiday. New Year cannot be a payday, so your January check will be in your pocket a few days before you should have gotten it.
How much can SSI recipients get on December 29?
If you qualify for the largest amount in 2024, you can get $943 on December 29. Therefore, if you got $913 on December 1 and $943 on December 29, you will receive a total payment of $1,857 in December 2023.
Essential persons will receive up to $472 on December 29. Hence, all recipients will take advantage of the 3.2% COLA boost. It is not possible to compare it with the 2023 COLA increase.
It was the highest in 40 years since it reached 8.7%. Do not forget that eligible married couples will still get more money from their SSI payments in December. Actually, they will get up to $2,786. Remember that there will be more months in 2024 that you can receive an advanced payment.
