USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) has allowed the State of Georgia to get a temporary waiver. In this way, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients can buy “hot foods” after the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Of course, this waiver to purchase prepared hot meals using SNAP (Food Stamps) is only for eligible areas. These areas are only those which have been hit harder by Hurricane Helene.
When is the deadline for SNAP recipients to buy hot foods in Georgia?
According to the Georgia Department of Human Services, Food Stamps can buy hot foods in this State until November 7, 2024. Thus, that will be the last date customers are approved.
Bear in mind that it is only possible to buy prepared hot foods using SNAP benefits in eligible retailers. If a retailer has not been approved, you will not be able to use Food Stamps there.
They got approval to buy hot foods because many Georgians have been affected by Hurricane Helene and cannot cook at home yet. Among the main reasons they may not be able to prepare food at home is either the lack of electricity or the lack of water. Or even both.
