USDA and the Food and Nutrition Service will implement new deduction amounts and new shelter caps for SNAP applicants. Apart from that, Food Stamp recipients in the 48 contiguous States and the District of Columbia will get an increase from October 1, 2024.
Those who live in Alaska, Guam, and the U.S Virgin Islands will also benefit from a boost. However, if you live in Hawaii, you will get a reduction since maximum benefit amounts have decreased after the 2025 COLA. The minimum SNAP allotment will remain the same until September 30, 2025. It will be $23 for the 48 contiguous States if you are 1 o2 members.
SNAP standard deductions
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program deductions will increase. The new deductions will start on October 1, 2024 and they will last until Sptember 30, 2025. The amounts will depend on the State or U.S. territory where you live and the size of your household.
- 48 States and DC: $204 (1, 2, or 3 members), $217 (4 members), $254 (5 members), $291 (6+ members).
- Alaska: $348 (household size 1-5 members), $364 (6+ members).
- Hawaii: $287 (household size 1-4 members), $292 (5 members), $335 (6+ members).
- Guam: $409 (household size 1-3 members), $432 (4 members), $507 (5 members) $581 (6+ members).
- Virgin Islands: $180 (household size 1-2 members), $217 (3 members), $254 (4 members), $291
SNAP shelter caps through September 30, 2025
USDA has also announced the new Maximum Excess Shelter Deductions. Once more, depending on the area where you live in, you can benefit from a higher or lower shelter cap.

Bear in mind that there will also be new maximum asset limits for those who want to receive SNAP payments. After the 2025 COLA increase, the maximum amount is $3,000 for most households.
Nevertheless, if you live in a household with at least 1 member who is aged 60 or older or a person who has a qualifying disability, this asset limit is higher. The new asset limit for this group of applicants and recipients is $4,500.
