The Department of Human Services in Georgia first announced more time to report any food lost because of Hurricane Helene. SNAP recipients were supposed to have extra time to get replacements but there is no need to check deadline because this State got waiver approval for mass replacement of Food Stamps.
For your information, certain counties qualify for this waiver so there is no need to report the loss of food you bought using Food Stamps. The main cause of the food loss has to do with power outages due to the previously mentioned natural disaster.
When was the deadline to claim SNAP replacement in Georgia?
The Georgia Department of Human Services has informed Food Stamp beneficiaries that residents in certain counties who got SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) in September 2024 they had until October 25 2024 to report food loss. However, reporting is not necessary after the waiver.
So, eligible recipients will not have to file the forms to request replacement of the eligible food they lost due to Hurricane Helene. So, if the storm-related power outages affected you, you may qualify.
These power outages must have lasted for at least (or more than) 4 hours. If you are not sure whether your county qualifies or not for the waiver for SNAP mass replacement, check the full list below.
