Scammers are using skimming methods to steal SNAP benefits in the United States. These skimming devices are placed on card readers. Apparently, it only takes them a few seconds to set it.

When a cashier is distracted or when there is no one at the checkout, they quickly rush there to set it up. Bear in mind that once your SNAP EBT card details are recorded by scammers, they can easily spend all your money.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SNAP SKIMMING

The first thing a Food Stamp beneficiary should do is to inspect the card machine. If you use ATM, you should also inspect it. In most cases, you will be able to spot an overlay that may have hidden parts of the card machine or ATM.

Another thing you should inspect the card machine for is glue marks. Sometimes they have damaged the card reader and it could even have loose parts. Do not forget to shield the PIN pad with your hand.

In this way, they will not be able to record your PIN number as you enter it. Keep in mind that there could be hidden cameras. But there are a few things you could do and this may not be enough.

CHANGE YOUR SNAP EBT CARD PIN  OFTEN

It is essential to change your PIN number as often as you go grocery shopping. What is more, do not share it with anyone else. It is advisable that you have a look at your SNAP EBT account from time to time.

By doing so, you could see if someone has stolen your SNAP benefits in order to report it. Some cards have the possibility to turn them off when you are not using them.

If that is the case with your EBT card, do it when you finish shopping. Those SNAP beneficiaries whose benefits were stolen can still claim them. However, hurry up because there is an approaching deadline.
